Meet the 2024 candidates for ANS vice president/president-elect and the Board of Directors

Candidates have been nominated for the 2024 American Nuclear Society national election. Terms will begin in June 2024, following the Annual Meeting. The six national positions open are vice president/president-elect and five seats on the Board of Directors—four U.S. members at-large and one Young Member. Ballots will be sent electronically on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, and must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Revisions to ANS bylaws on the 2022 election ballot

The 2022 ANS election ballot, which was sent to ANS members via email on February 22, includes several proposed amendments to the Society’s bylaws and rules.

Following the adoption of ANS Change Plan 2020, the Bylaws and Rules Committee took on the task of reviewing each section of the Society’s bylaws and rules to ensure compliance with the plan.

A working group of the Bylaws and Rules Committee, composed of Don Lorentz, Melissa Hunter, Peter Caracappa, and Hans Gougar, worked with the chairs of the ANS committees and with ANS staff to review the bylaws and revise them to meet the intent of the Change Plan. Gougar presented the proposed amendments to the Board of Directors at the 2021 ANS Winter Meeting, and the Board approved the proposed changes to be voted on by the wider membership in January 2022.

2022 ANS vice president/president-elect candidates provide statements

Ahead of the upcoming 2022 ANS national election, the nominees for vice president/president-­elect have prepared statements outlining their goals for ANS. The nominees are Bradley J. Adams, an ANS Fellow and member since 2009 and vice president of engineering at Southern Nuclear Company, and Kenneth S. Petersen, an ANS member since 1987 and a private consultant who recently retired from Exelon Generation as vice president of nuclear fuels.

The elected candidate will succeed current ANS vice president/president-­elect Steven Arndt in June 2022, when Arndt becomes president.

Ballots for the 2022 election will be sent electronically on February 22 and completed ballots must be submitted by 1 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 12.

Candidates for Young Member seat on ANS Board offer statements

This is the fourth in a four-part series spotlighting the candidates for the upcoming 2021 ANS national election. Seven leadership positions are on the ballot.

Today we feature statements from the nominees for the Young Member director position, which was approved by the ANS Board of Directors in September.

The nominees are Benjamin A. Holtzman, of the Nuclear Energy Institute, an ANS member since 2007, and Catherine M. Prat, of Westinghouse Electric Company, an ANS member since 2011.

Ballots will be sent electronically on February 22 and must be submitted by 4 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, April 6.

Today we feature statements from the nominees for the U.S. director at-large positions. There are 10 candidates for four open spots on the ANS Board of Directors. Today we feature statements from the nominees for treasurer.

The nominees are Ray Klann, an ANS member since 1991, who is a senior scientist in the National Security Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory; and W. A. “Art” Wharton III, an ANS member since 2004, who is a vice president at Studsvik Scandpower. Wharton, the current ANS treasurer, is running for a second term.
